What Triggers My Adult Acne?

Almost every body has experienced acne at some age. Most of the people get pimples at teenage and just get over with it. But there are some quite unfortunate people like me, who are accompanied by acne throughout their lives. Welcome to the world of Adult Acne.

Adult acne never leaves you even after your teen days. You age but your face is constantly scarred by acne. You can get acne in 20s, 30’s, 40’s and even in your 50’s. Adult Acne is mostly associated with hormone imbalance. Hormones can be imbalanced due to inadequate diet, poor sleep and stress.

I have sure shot clues about what triggers my acne. I generally get spots at chin which denotes hormone imbalance.

Causes Of Chronic Adult Acne

Inadequate Sleep & Stress

I am an insomniac. I go to sleep very late and hence, I never get my beauty sleep which is important for my body to flush out toxins and repair my body and skin from within and outside. Whenever i am too drained out of sleep, I get spots.

Stress is another major factor behind my zits. It is actually a recursive factor. I might be stressed out due to some external factor, resulting into zits, which again induces more stress and hence more zits. See the evil cycle here?

Sugar Mama

I realized it few months back, when I started taking a warm glass of milk at night with sugar. My face got lots of spots around my chin. I did not stop taking milk, but just stopped adding sugar to it. And the spots went away. I don’t have have a sweet tooth, so I can survive without sugar.

White Bread

I am having few spots on my chin right now since I had some white bread 2 days back. Brown bread does not break me out but white bread does. Go figure. White bread contains Gluten which is bad for skin. It instantly breaks me out even if I had 2 slices of white bread. Brown bread also contain gluten but in lesser quantity (my guess).

Soya Chunks

I love soya chunks. Soya is great source of protein for vegetarians and tastes very yummy. But I am allergic to soya. I get cystic acne from having soya. The worst form  of acne is cystic acne. It takes a lot of time to heal cystic acne and also leave deep scarring behind.

Day Creams With SPF

Day creams with even a little amount of SPF, blocks my pores, which result into acne after few days. I do not use day creams which contain SPF. Even makeup with SPF also break me out. So I stay away from such products. I am currently using Himalaya Natural Glow Fairness Cream, which sans of any SPF. It is hard to find a day cream without SPF though. Olay Total Effects Day Cream, Ponds White Beauty Day Cream are few to name.

Surprisingly, a sunscreen (among many that I have tried) does not break me out. I am clueless at this mystery.

Heavy/Creamy Makeup

I think heavy makeup breaks out many people, because it suffocates skin, and deposits unwanted chemicals. Skin reacts badly and results into pimples. I choose water based face makeup.

Extra Drying Face Wash/Ointments

Extra drying face washes which are generally sell to target pimples, actually make my skin produce more oil, clogging pores and inviting acne bacteria to sprout on it. Also the lotions that contain strong chemicals, can show adverse effect on skin. I had a horrible experience with La Roche-Posey Effaclar Duo+.

PMS

I just can’t escape getting zits when Miss Rosy is about to pay me a visit. Actually my oil glads become hyper active, producing more oil and clogging my pores badly.

These are all the factors that break my skin. A lot to manage by a single soul 🙁 Whenever I get zits, I use Faceclin Gel to treat them. I just don’t stress about them much now since I have accepted the fact that I suffer from Adult Acne which has some skin deep causes.

Do you  suffer from Adult Acne too? (I, don’t, anymore!!)

Have you identified what breaks your skin?

XOXO
