The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% Solution Review

“Best skin care products for oily acne prone skin”, “How to remove oily skin naturally” , “oily skin treatment” , these are some questions asked by oily skinned people, as if to manage oily skin is the only goal they have got. Last decade had been the same for me, looking out for that one ingredient for oily acne prone skin that would relive me from excess oiliness. Nothing else mattered throughout these years.

In the back of my mind, I only had one mission – to keep my skin oil free. Sounds familiar? If you can feel me, you gotta stay with me. I am going to share about the one product that I have been using from last year and have been amazed how it has balanced my skin bringing back peace of my mind.

The Ordinary is one brand that has bottled clinical formulations with integrity. The brand does not believe in fancy naming system. The products are known by their formulas and proven efficacy. Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% contains optimal levels of Niacinamide and Zinc which are highly beneficial for oily and acne prone skin. The solution controls sebum production without making it overly dry. When sebum production is controlled, pores stay clean and free of nasty bacteria. Full stop to acne.

Packaging

The Ordinary products come in see through glass bottles with dropper. I quite like it as it’s very hygienic. Pump packaging is quite preferred, but I feel this medicinal bottle like packaging kind of portraits their idea behind the brand. The glass bottles should not be exposed to direct light to preserve the formula’s efficacy. The product should be used as soon as possible after opening the bottle.

The outer packaging of the product contains ingredients of the product.

Fragrance & Texture

It is a clear gel like solution, runnier than a gel actually. If you got your hands on the real product, it would never feel sticky. It has practically no smell. The solution is able to moisturize my skin very well. I hardly need any other moisturizer over it.

Availability

The Ordinary is from Canada and is not available in India. I tried Amazon and some Instagram shopping pages, but did not receive original product. The product was sticky or expired. Now I buy it from BeautyBay It takes about 2-5 weeks, but at least I get original product. I buy 2-3 bottles at once. Whenever my younger sister visits us from Canada, she makes sure to get all The Ordinary products that I love.

Alternate Products To The Ordinary Niacinamide + Zinc?

I think Mamaearth too has a serum which contains Niacinamide. Have not tested it by myself, but I have faith in this brand.

What does Niacinamide & Zinc do for skin?

Niacinamide is Vitamin B3 while Zinc is a mineral. Niacinamide helps with blemishes and relives skin congestion. It regulates sebum production. Zinc helps with redness and inflammation.When skin does not product extra oil, the oil does not accumulate in your pores. It stays clear. It does not mean that it is a treatment for Acne. But the combination works at a basic level by controlling oil production. If you remember, that’s the real problem.

Basically this solution controls sebum production, keeping skin pores clean. When pores, are clean, there is no food for acne bacteria.

How To Use The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%

This is an odor less, color less, oil free solution that has a runny consistency. It is easy to apply and blend into skin. Here is how I use it.

• In the morning, after cleansing and toning my skin, using the dropper, I take out 3-5 drops, and dot my face. Massage my skin so that the solution can penetrate deeply. Within few seconds it’s all gone. Before putting on a sunscreen or any other product on my face, I wait for 5-7 minutes. It’s always good to allow your skin some time between product applications.
• Before bed time too, I follow the same steps of cleansing and toning my skin. And then use The Ordinary Niacinamide + Zinc solution to seal my pores with nutrients. Sometimes, I also use a Vitamin C serum on top of the The Ordinary solution, and never had any bad reaction. I allow ample time between the applications.

How long does it take to see results with Niacinamide + Zinc Solution

As I already mentioned this is not a direct treatment for acne. I have tried it on active spots, but this solution does not work as a on the spot treatment. This is basically a solution to manage oily skin. It targets the real problem behind acne ad blemishes. It balances the oil levels in skin. It’s an on going process. I noticed lesser oil production after using it for about 2-3 weeks. I stopped using it. The oil production increased.

My Experience With The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%

I have been using it from last one year. Have stopped using it for few times, because it’s not available in India and must be ordered online from International store which takes about 2-5 weeks to deliver. I also discontinued it’s usage, because I did not realize how effectively it was managing my skin condition. I only thought since I was having healthy food or getting my workout done, so my skin was behaving well and balanced.

Every time, I stopped using Niacinamide + Zinc solution, within 2 weeks time, I mostly broke out or experienced overly oily skin. Every single time, I came back to Niacinamide +Zinc solution, within 2 weeks, my skin’s oil production got balanced. Now I have realized, its the one product I have always longed for. The product that would keep my skin balanced.

I use it twice a day, once in the morning and once before bed time. One bottle lasts me for about a month or so.
