It’s time to say bye to the summer dresses and take out your jackets, overcoats & high boots. Winters are fun, you can wear bright and bold colours in clothes and on your lips, no one will judge you. So ditch out the blacks and beige-s and get some colour. But don’t forget your skin and hair. It’s the time when you need to take extra care of not only your face but also your body and hair.
Winters can take away the natural moisture out of your skin with every warm bath you take. The case is with your hair too. You like a warm head bath but it takes away all the natural oil from your hair with every wash. Result? Dry skin & life less hair. But don’t worry, it’s not that difficult to fight the dryness during winter. By following simple tips provided below, you can stay glowy without using a highlighter.
Winter Face Care
Switch your cleanser, toner & moisturiser:
Foaming face washes are for summers & monsoons, you need to use a creamy cleanser during dry season. Creamy cleansers cleans skin without stripping it’s natural oil. Even if you have oily skin, winters will turn it into combination.
Similarly you can try to switch to a milder non alcoholic toner (if you use one), since alcohol based toners can further dry out your skin.
I know you are in love with your oil free moisturizer you used to use during summers, but winters ask for something extra. Even I like using my clean n clear oil free moisturizer since it is so lightweight. But then I need to reapply it after every two hours. So I switched to Za true white day cream.
Just try to listen to your skin, it will tell you if it needs extra dose of moisture, you got to address the need. There are lots of options if you have normal-dry skin. Cetaphil moisturizing cream is for heavy moisturization.
Add a Serum for extra moisture:
The market is full of skin serums, you just need to choose what are your skin concerns. For example Lotus Herbals White Glow Emulsion , Za True White Emulsion, Za Perfect White Serum etc are among the serums that can give that extra boost to your skin. While O3+ Agelock Serum is to address pigmentation and ageing concerns.
Serums are supposed to be used after cleanser/toner and before moisturiser to lock the effectiveness inside.
Add a Night Cream:
Night Creams are special. They are not your regular moisturiser. They are made to address special skin concerns. Choose one wisely.
Don’t Ditch The Sunscreen :
No matter what season it is, you are not supposed to skip your sunscreen or sun block. Sunscreens are supposed to protect you from the sun and other environmental factors which can speed up the skin ageing & pigmentation. Wear a sunscreen with sufficient levels of SPF to get the benefits. If you are out whole day in the sun, SPF 15 with your compact won’t do much. Wear proper Sun Protection.
Weekly Rituals:
Use weekly scrubs & face packs to keep up the glow. Clay based face packs can deter the moisture levels of your skin. Use gel based face packs for oily skin while creamy face packs for dry-normal skin.
Zap That Zip Herbal Way:
Winters don’t guarantee pimple free skin & acne treatments generally leave your skin flaky and dry. Do not slather acne treatment on all your face. If you must use one, just use it as a spot treatment. Use clove oil or tea tree oil based treatments as they do not damage your skin the way benzoyl peroxide topical do.
Body Care
We love hot baths. There is no way we can stay away from a hot shower after a long day. But the hot shower cheats you and it steals away the natural moisture from your body. Use a creamy soap/body wash to replace the lost moisture. Also you can add body oils to your bathing water, which will nourish you as you rinse.
Moisturise as soon as you get out of the shower. Try to moisturise while your body is still moist. That way it will stay moisturised for longer. Also use a body lotion/oil that is meant for dry season.
When you go to sleep at night, you do your night ritual for your face but you generally forget the body parts that were too exposed to environment throughout the whole day, your hands & feet. You should put some lotion on your hands/feet to repair and replenish you hands & feet.
For Gorgeous Locks
Even oily hair turns little dry during winters. Hot oil massages can keep them sane. Try to massage your hair with moisture rich hair oils like almond oil, olive oil & coconut oil. Be gentle while massaging other wise you do damage you hair roots causing hair fall.
Moisturising shampoo and conditioners take care of your hair by providing and sealing the much needed moisture. Olive oil, Argan oil, & Moroccan oil shampoos & conditioners are highly moisturising. Use deep conditioning masks for extra shine. Use hair serum to keep the frizz away. There are several oil in cream ready-made options available.
Also try not to use really hot water for head bath. Use warm instead of hot water.
P.S.: Drink water as you do during summers. Even if you are not thirsty, try to sip little water now and then. This way you can keep you body hydrated from inside. East healthy, cut on adulterated drinks. Stay happy & positive.
