Toner Comparison : Vichy Normaderm Tightening Lotion VS La Roche Posay Toner

Summary: Vichy Normaderm Pore Tightening Lotion VS La Roche Posay Toner

Toner, mostly considered & ignored as an unimportant step in skin care. A toner is something which you cannot judge just after application. A toner takes time & persistence. I have used many toners, ranging from mild to strong compositions, rose waster based to alcoholic ones. I have my fair share of experience with most of the types of the toners.

From last year I have been using 2 toners alternatively- Vichy Normaderm Pore Tightening Lotion & La Rosay Poche Effaclar Astringent . I like to do comparison posts instead of doing plain review posts. That gives the reader an advantage of choosing the best among similar products. I understand what may sound best to me, might not be always suitable for all of the readers, but I try to write from all the aspects. That’s how I plan to help my readers.

I am going to write mainly about Vichy Normaderm Pore Tightening Lotion while comparing it with La Roche Posay Effaclar Astringent at last. Both of the toners have a comparable performance in terms of pore tightening abilities. They are considered good for Oily & acne prone skin. Let’s find out in detail, where do they differ?

I found an affordable toner that works on pores and controls acne – Kaya Acne Free Purifying Toner.

Vichy Normaderm Pore Tightening Lotion

Vichy Normaderm Pore Tightening Lotion

Vichy is a leading brand in skin care. Vichy Thermal Spring Water has got raved reviews. Similarly the Pore tightening lotion (I would call it water), is not sort of an ordinary lad. It has it’s numerous followers too. The rave reviews made me buy it.

Vichy says that the lotion has been formulated with Thermal Spring Water for problematic skin to soothe it. The gently peeling ingredients of the lotion helps to unclog & tightens  the pores.

Price

Rs. 1140 for 200ml. Buy here.

La Roche Posay is little bit more costly.

Packaging

The toner comes packaged in a light mint green transparent plastic bottle with a flip top cap. The packaging is very practical. The packaging helps me dispense only the required amount of the product. There is no product wastage or spillage as such.

The color of the bottle is also refreshing. Since the bottle is transparent it is easy to make out the product left in the bottle. On the front side of the bottle logo of Vichy has been printed beneath which the complete product name has been provided. At the back of the bottle, ingredients & other related information about the product has been printed in may languages.

How To Use

Take a wet cotton, pour some toner on it & swipe the cotton across your already cleansed face gently. Let it air dry before proceeding for the next skin care regimen step.

Color, Texture & Smell

This is a clear water like lotion , actually I am wondering why Vichy calls it lotion instead of water. It is just like you are using water. Nothing more & nothing less. It smells little chemically but mostly pleasant. Does not bother my sensitive nose.

Texture wise, both the toners, are same but differ on the fragrance notes. Vichy smells more pleasant while La Roche Posay smells more alcoholic.

Effectiveness

I used it for 3 months in a row before switching to La Roche Posay Astringment. I find the Vichy toner is little milder & soothing than La Roche Posay Astringent. Vichy’s toner contains Thermal Spring Water, which is very soothing in nature, hence Vichy wins here.

I have some visible open pores at the inner corners of my cheek. I would not call them anything major, but of course I could use some tightening effect. Vichy does a good job in controlling the size of these pores with continuous usage. La Roche Posay has the same effect on my pores. It’s a tie between the two toners.

When it comes to controlling oil & acne, I think La Roche Posay wins the battle, as it is more strong chemical formulation like LHA, which is a micro-exfoliant. I never saw my zits healing faster when I was using Vichy toner. But La Roche Posay is more effective in dealing with acne.

LA Roche Posay Astringent or Vichy Normaderm Pore Tightening Lotion, Which Works Best For Acne?

LA Roche Posay Astringent contains LipoHyrdoxy Acid which is derived from Salicyclic Acid. LHA has a tendency to exfoliate skin cell by cell gently which gives better results than any other acid. Even though it is derived from Salicylic Acid, it is more lipophilic than SA. Lipophilic means to have tendency to dissolve with fatty acids and lipids. So it can easily work with skin’s natural lipids.

Vichy Normaderm Pore Tightening Lotion contains Glycolic Acid and Salicylic Acid along with Thermal Spring Water. Glycolic Acid can deeply penetrate skin and exfoliate. But there should be adequate amount of the acid to present to effectively cleanse the skin. My skin did not receive that optimum exfoliation because there were other many ingredients present in the lotion which kind of neutralized the effect of Acids. Or maybe the acids need more time to show results.

LA Roche Posay Astringent Works better in controlling Acne than Vichy Normaderm Pore Tightening Lotion. Tried on Acne prone skin.
