Guest Review by Sreeparna Ganguly Summer is on the way and so are the ‘tan-worries’. My previous sunscreen, the Neutrogena one that I reviewed some weeks ago is on the verge of getting over. So, I recently got myself the 3-In-1 Matte Look Daily Sunblock SPF 40 PA+++ from Lotus Herbals. This is not at all a new product for me; it is my fourth repurchase to be precise. In my today’s post I will present my experience with this product that I have been adoring for so long. To get a sneak peak about how it works on me, read on. About Lotus Herbals Safe Sun 3-In-1 Matte Look Daily Sunblock Safe Sun 3-in-1 Daily Sunblock is a revolutionary sun protection formulation which combines Broad-Spectrum UVA/UVB protection with skin lightening ingredients to give a uniform matte finish to the skin. How To Use Apply Safe Sun 3-in-1 Daily Sunblock liberally and evenly on face and exposed parts of the body (neck, arms, legs, etc.) before exposure to sun. Re-apply frequently. Ingredients Water, Talcum, Kaolin Light, Glycerine, Polyacrylamide C13-14 Isoparaffin Laureth-7, Oxybenzoene, Octyl Methoxy Cinnamate, Titanium Dioxide, Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane, Isopropyl Myristare, Cyclopentasiloxane, Elcosene, Copolymer, Birch (BETULA) Extract, Mallow (MALUACEAE) Extract, Hops(HUMULUS) Extract, Fumed Silica, 2- Phenoxyethanol, Methyl Paraben, Propyl Paraben, Methylchloroisothiazolinone And Methylisothiazolinone, Red Iron Oxide, Yellow Iron Oxide, Fragrance. Packaging This sunscreen comes in the yellow-orange plastic tube with flip open cap. There is a hole at the opening that dispenses the product when you squeeze the tube. The cap shuts with a sharp click that ensures no spillage or product wastage. Like most other products of this brand, it also contains complete ingredients list, shelf life, claims and an eye-soothing label graphics. The packaging is simple, sturdy but nothing fancy; it’s just the signature tube that is quite common among the Lotus Herbals Safe Sun range products. Colour, Texture & Smell The sunblock is tinted. The texture is smooth and the consistency is on the thinner side. It feels light on the skin. It has a nice floral fragrance; nothing too over powering. My Skin Type Oily to Combination, Acne-prone. My Views I have been loving this product for 3-4 years now because it seems to be the perfect sunscreen for humid summer of my place and my skin type. I apply it in the morning after cleansing and toning. As I apply it to the skin, it starts getting absorbed. Within 2 minutes it sets into perfect matte. In mid-summer days I do not need any moisturizer over this. For other times, when certain area of my face gets drier, I dab a bit of my regular moisturizer. This tinted sunscreen has very low coverage. It just evens out the skin tone. Which is why, it works for people of every complexion. It does not leave whitish cast on skin. I have experienced no skin irritations, outbreak or aggravation in my existing pimples as well. This product contains Oxybenzone to fight with various types of sun allergies and Octyl Methoxy Cinnamate to filter out the harmful rays of sun. These ingredients protect my skin from burning sensations on my skin for 3-4 hours which is great considering my sun sensitivity problem. Likes Offers protection from harmful UVA and UVB rays of sun. Gives non-greasy matte finish. Has tint that makes skin look even toned. Works for all skin types. Full ingredient list is mentioned. Nice smell. Budget friendly. Dislikes Could not find any. Summary: 5/5 I would recommend this matte sunscreen to anyone who wants a budget-friendly, high SPF & PA tinted sunscreen for broad spectrum protection. In my opinion, everyone should give it a try irrespective of their skin type. Whenever my skin is exposed to the sunlight for more than five minutes my skin gets reddened and starts to sting like hell. Later the burning sensation subsides but the skin darkens. Sunscreens with SPF 30 or more with minimum PA++ are my necessity rather than a cosmetic cure. Over the years I have had trial and error sessions with many sunscreens in which I have found that majority of the creams that provide sun-protection are somehow or other comedogenic in nature. I had to reject many of them in the past just because they broke my facial skin out badly. My today’s review is about Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-touch Sunblock which, in spite of being a non pore-clogging product, provides SPF 50+ with PA+++. I bought the 30ml trial pack to test it as a facial sunscreen. Let’s read on to know how it fared on me. Neutrogena’s Claims About The Sunblock Neutrogena Ultra sheer DRY-TOUCH SUNBLOCK SPF 50+ PA +++ is a breakthrough in sun protection. Stabilized with Helioplex, it provides superior balanced broad spectrum protection against skin-aging UVA and burning UVB rays, and combines it with Dry Touch Technology for an ultra-light, non shiny finish. This light weight sun block has a light fresh scent and is gentle enough even for sensitive skin. How To Use Apply liberally on face and body 15-30 minutes before sun exposure. For added protection, reapply after swimming, towel drying or extended sun exposure. Price Rs.199 for 30ml. Buy from Amazon.in at discounted price. Ingredients Not mentioned on the pack. Packaging This sunblock comes in a small matte plastic tube with a blue plastic screw cap. The tube is painted in light blue and white. The product comes out of this squeeze tube through a small hole in the opening of the tube. The front side of the pack bears the company logo product name and some of the claims. Majority of the useful information and claims are placed in the back of the pack. I did not experience any spillage or wastage of the product. It fits even in my small purses for which this sunscreen gets a big thumbs-up from my side. Colour, Texture & Smell This sunscreen is milky white in colour. The consistency is quite creamy that makes it an easy-to-spread product. After I blend it to my skin, it gives a powdery matte finish. This sunblock smells like fresh flowers. The smell lingers for a bit but it is not something that would cause headache. My Skin Type I have type 2 acne-prone skin and I tend to get cystic acne. My Views I apply this sunscreen twice a day; once in the morning immediately after washing my face with a cleanser and for the second time in midday. A pea size amount is enough to cover my face and neck. Within a minute it gets absorbed into the skin and the face becomes matte. If my face feels dry after that, I apply a little bit of face moisturizer on top of it. Though this cream is white coloured, it does not leave any white residue behind. To my extreme relief, it has been able to reduce my sun sensitivity to certain extent. I am quite happy as very few of my previous sun protection cream could do it. Though it is working fine as a matte finish sunscreen in this cold winter season, I have my doubts if it will provide the same kind of finish in the humid summer. I would have to set it with loose powder or reduce the quantity for each application. As the full ingredient list is missing, there is no way to verify if it is a comedogenic product or not. This product has not aggravated my existing acne. It did not cause any new break-outs too. Likes Provides broad spectrum sun protection with SPF 50+ and PA+++. Non-comedogenic. Did not get new breakouts. Does not aggravate existing acne. Mild flowery smell. Gives matte finish. Does not give white cast. Water & Sweat Proof. Dislikes Ingredient list is not mentioned. Not a good summer sunscreen for extremely oily skin. Summary: 4/5 I find this a good non-comedognic winter sunscreen for my oily-combination skin.
