I smeared SUGAR Matte As Hell Crayon Lipstick Viola on my lips as soon as I discovered it in my fab bag in January 2018. And for 3 days, this is the only lipstick I am wearing on my lips. Matte As Hell is my favorite range from SUGAR Cosmetics. I like the texture, shade collection & longevity of this range. I have already used Scarlet O Hara & Holy Golightly from the range. SUGAR keeps on releasing beautiful shades in this range and it’s really hard to resist. How To Identify A Good Quality Matte Lipstick? I am quite obsessed with lipsticks, especially matte ones. I have had my fair share of hits and fails of matte lipsticks. You want the matte finish on your lips, that is just fine, but a matte lipstick does not need to dry out your lips or make you feel uneasy. A good quality matte lipstick has just the right amount of moisture in it to soothe your lips, create a protective layer on your lips and still, look matte. I also hate the lipsticks that accentuate fine lines. Most of the matte lipsticks fail on this front. Well, this flaw arises in case of a lack of moisture. So there are a few points that you must keep in mind while choosing your matte lipstick. Don’t fall just for a pretty shade. Tip: If you matte lipstick lacks moisture, apply a layer of clear lip balm before applying the lipstick. SUGAR Matte As Hell Crayon Lipstick 07 Viola Viola is a very pretty shade. It’s a mix of peach and brown which results in an everyday kind of shade. But after wearing the shade for a few minutes the brown hue starts to take over. The lipstick shade changes to brownish from peachy-brown. The shade is suitable for all skin types. Price & Packaging The range is available at Rs. 699. You can buy it from Amazon This is a crayon lipstick hence comes in the form of a sharpenable pencil. Honestly, I am not a fan of this feature of the pencil. But somewhere you have to compromise. There is a color band at the bottom of the pencil to give you an idea of the shade of the pencil. Ingredients Fragrance & Texture SUGAR Matte As Hell Crayon Lipstick range is quite good in terms of moisture and it glides very smoothly & effortlessly on lips. The moisture content in the lipstick can be felt while applying it. Otherwise, lipstick would have demanded a bit of pressure. With just a light hand, you can swipe the lipstick over your lips and you will be done. There is almost no fragrance or taste to the product. Pigmentation The range deserves an applause for the color pay off it offers. The rich and creamy formula gives nice pigmentation. Be it any shade from this range, light or dark, there is no compromise on the pigmentation front. Viola too is intensely pigmented. One swipe gives an opaque finish. Finish The finish is undoubtedly matte the very moment you apply it. The formula is wonderful that without feeling drying on lips it gives a matte finish. After a few minutes, the finish feels a bit powdery but does not feel uncomfortable. Longevity Good pigmentation of lipstick results in long-lasting performance. Viola too gives a nice stay. It stays for 4-5 hours if I follow the standard way – Apply-Blot-Apply. Likes Beautiful & bold shades in the range. Creamy & moisturizing formula. Soft matte finish. Beautiful matte finish. The shade is a beautiful mix of peach & brown. After sharpening, it can be used as a lip liner too. Ships with a sharpener. Dislikes The price could be better. It fades away. I just could not stop my self from smearing my lips in Rethink Pink as soon as I opened my February fab bag and saw SUGAR Smudge Me Not Lipstick in it. I already knew I will be getting the recently launched Smudge Me Not lipstick in my fab bag since Fab Bag asked me to pick my shade few days back. I was just waiting for my fab bag to arrive so that I could see my self what is so good about this new girl in town. As I was telling you that I wore it in the morning and did not care to retouch until later in the evening. Yes it is that intense. So I decided I must show this bubbly girl to you as this range really needs review since it’s new. Also Read Smudge Me Not Liquid Lipstick Tan Fan About SUGAR Smudge Me Not Liquid Lipstick SUGAR recently launched this and has been constantly emailing the lipstick lovers about this new launch. No doubt we are all curious since the name itself says Smudge Me Not. SUGAR claims that this is one coat wonder and so intense that your lipstick will stay longer than your longest day. Now that’s huge claim. The lipstick is liquid that sets off in matte finish. SUGAR shouts for all the matte lipstick lovers to try stunning 10 beautiful shades. Price Rs. 499 for 4.5ml. Ingredients Packaging The packaging of this liquid lipstick does not look fancy at first sight, but when I really looked at it closely, it looked like I am actually seeing a lipstick enclosed in a transparent cover. But it is not a lipstick in bullet, since it is liquid, it is packed in the form of a lip gloss. The liquid lipstick comes in a transparent tube of pigment with applicator wand at the top. Smudge Me Not is printed horizontally on the transparent tube. The shade no and name are also printed at the bottom of the tube. Since the colour tube is transparent I can see the quantity and colour of the lipstick. The applicator wand is angled to line the lips while giving them intense colour. The applicator is smooth and gives perfect application. The tube has a rounded small opening for the wand to go inside the tube. The lipstick is very tiny. It will fit in the palm of my hand. Taste, Texture & Smell Initially there is no taste as such, but after the lipstick has set in matte finish there is little powdery feeling on my lips. It feels like I have literally painted my lips. Texture of the lipstick is really smooth but little thick so I have to immediately apply the lipstick before it’s dry. It dries up really quickly so messy application would ruin the look. I line up my lips with the wand provided with the lipstick and then quickly fill in between. There is a sweet yet chemically smell in the tube but it’s really mild and does not bother me until I sniff into the tube. It is not horrible as Miss Claire Soft Matte Lip Cream. Pigmentation This lipstick reminded me of Maybelline Super Stay Range. This liquid lipstick is insanely pigmented. I have to be really careful while applying it so that I do not stain my skin in an unwanted manner. SUGAR already points out that it’s very pigmented so you need to apply this on your lower lip first and then press your lips together. But I am not sure if that would give an even application. So I just go the old way. I apply it as I apply a lip gloss. Pick as little as you can and start applying from the middle of you upper/lower lid and all the way around. Go for another swipe if required. That gives me perfect application. Shades SUGAR launched 10 beautiful shades in this particular range. Even though the shade range is limited, SUGAR has tried to touch every colour family. Following are the shades of this range: 01 Brazen Raisin , 02 Brink Of Pink, 03 Tan Fan, 04 Plum Yum, 05 Rust Lust , 06 Tangerine Queen , 07 Rethink Pink, 08 Wine & Shine, 09 Sauve Mauve, 10 Drop Dead Red. Shade – Rethink Pink 07 It is a beautiful pink shade which is going to suit every skin tone and will be loved by every one. My Camera did not do justice to the colour as it mostly looked more of Mauve, but it is really deep pink which can be toned down to subtle pink. If I use the colour in full throttle I get very deep colour, but I can use just a hint of the colour to get a perfect hint of pink which I prefer for every day look. Finish This is a liquid lipstick setting off in a completely matte finish. The formula is quick dry hence I need to be really quick and precise with the application. Longevity This range is here to stay. The performance is comparable to that of the Maybelline Super Stay Range. You can just apply it in the morning and forget for good 5-6 hours. Even after 5-6 hours you will need to retouch the formula and will be set for another 5-6 hours, while surviving full meals and sips in between. Likes Intense pigmentation. Smooth & quick dry formula. Matte finish. Compact packaging. Long lasting colour. Fabulous shades. Does not dry out lips on its own. Dislikes Limited range of shades. Little powdery finish when it sets off. Summary I think all matte lovers will the formula and the staying power. Some might feel the price is bit high but I feel the performance justifies the price and the compact design. I wish SUGAR comes up with more shades in this range.
