Best Products For Acne Prone Skin In Summer : My Favorites

I have been getting a few emails to share my summer skincare products. I have acne-prone oily skin. I am going to list out the best products for oily & acne-prone skin during summer. There are few products that suit my skin type. The products are very basic & under budget. Some products are paraben-free while some products are organic/herbal. I keep on trying out new stuff but always come back to the products that I am going to list in this post today. Best Products For Oily Acne Prone Skin In Summer My first concern is to keep my skin acne-free. I choose those products which are noncomedogenic, non-creamy & let my skin breathe. I also hate to layer up a lot of products, otherwise my skin feels suffocating. Next, I try to exfoliate my skin with micro exfoliates like Glycolic & Salicylic acid instead of physical scrubs so that my acne-prone and sensitive skin does not get aggravated. For moisturization purposes, I like to use very basic water-based moisture or some time Jojoba Oil. Now, let’s move on to the products. Best Skin Care Products For Acne Prone Skin Cleansers -> Cetaphil Gentle Cleansing Lotion , AhaGlow S Face Wash Cleansing is a basic step in skincare. Cetaphil Gentle Cleansing Lotion stays in my vanity all year long. I like to use it as a makeup/oil/grim dissolver. I massage this lotion on my face for a few minutes, wiping it off with cotton, which takes away all the dirt off the face. Then I use another face wash if I feel like. On contrary to popular belief, it is not only meant for dry skin but it is a nice face wash for all skin types. Oily & acne-prone skins need it more because, we have to use acne based harsh washes & treatments, which leave our skin in distress and all flaky. Cetaphil restores the skin’s pH level & calms it down taking away the redness. I sometimes, use it as a face mask too because the Vitamin E present in the face wash imparts nice glow on my face. Ahaglow S Face Wash is a strong face wash containing Glycolic acid & Salicylic acid. After using Ahaglow Face Wash, I moved on to AhaGlow S to reap the advantage of Salicylic Acid present in the face wash. It tightens my pores even during summer, exfoliates my skin while am not using a physical scrub & clears out my pores. I stopped using this face wash for about a month, my face got really dull & clogged. I rushed back to Ahaglow S & my skin was restored. Scrub -> Himalaya Herbals Purifying Neem Face Scrub Even though I use an exfoliating face wash, I still use a scrub out of the habit to exfoliate physically, or before using a face mask. Himalaya Neem Face Scrub needs no introduction. You all know, how amazing this face scrub (actually the whole range) is. It has the goodness of Turmeric & Neem which purifies the skin, cleansing out dirt & clogged pores while apricot granules take off the dead skin layer, leaving a fresh & clearer complexion. On top of that, it is a budget product. No doubt it is the number one product for oily & acne-prone skinned girls. Toner For Acne Free Skin For a long time, I kept on ignoring toner for my skin. Toners can be very useful for problematic skin. They could be used as a treatment. Kaya Acne Free Toner which contains Mandelic Acid has been great in clearing my existing acne and keeping my skin clear. If you want to go a bit higher, The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Tonning Solution, would not disappoint you. It’s really strong. It stings every time you put it on your skin. It exfoliates the skin and keeps pores clean. Don’t need to use a physical scrub, if you are using this. Face Masks -> Plum Green Tea Clear Face Mask , FabIndia Acne Control Clove Cream After using a scrub, it is a must to use a face mask while your face is still damp. I like to use Plum Green Tea Clear Face Mask which contains Glycolic acid in addition to Green Tea. I have used 2-3 more products from the green tea range of Plum, like Plum Green Tea Toner & Mattifying Moisturizer, but it’s this face mask which I keep on repurchasing. You can read it’s the complete review here. Acne never leaves me alone, so I have to consistently use some acne control mask/ointment. I use such masks at night for the obvious reasons. FabIndia Acne Control Clove Cream is a sweetheart. It works on zits without any side effects. It actually improves texture while eating up the zit. It does not dry out skin though. It has a gel texture, just stings a bit initially. Overall, I totally love it. Moisturizer -> Clean-n-Clear Oil Free Moisturiser Skincare seals off with a moisturizer. I love using Clean-n-Clear Oil Free Moisturiser all year round. It suits my oily skin. It is a water-based lotion type moisturizer which is completely oil-free. I shall do a full review of this budget product. Update: Mamaearth Light moisturizer also works great for my skin. Also, Read – Neutrogena Oil Free Moisturiser Sunscreen -> Aroma Magic Cucumber Sunscreen Lotion SPF 30 , La Shield Fisico Sunscreen SPF 50 Summer & Sunscreen, an unbeatable combination. Wearing at least SPF 30 is a must for the Indian Summer season. I like to wear light formulas & Aroma Magic Cucumber Sunscreen is one with nice sun protection as well as lightweight formula. It does not leave behind any white cast. Does not feel sticky or heavy on the skin. I shall be writing about this very soon. La Shield Fisico Sunscreen SPF 50 is a perfect matte sunscreen that keeps skin matte for hours. It’s a physical sunscreen and contains Zinc, Zinc Oxide, Titanium Oxide as it’s main ingredients. These ingredients are super helpful for acne-prone skin. SPF 50 with PA++ saves skin from UVA & UVB. Not using any special toners such as La Roche Posay Effaclar Astringent or anything else. I am on a break from the commercial toners. If you remember I got Concentrated Rose Water form Kodaikanal. I have been diluting this concentration with Divya Rose Water from Patanjali and using it as a toner & as a mist. I like the freshness that it gives to my skin. I like to use new things, but then problematic skin needs some basic care & some loyal products to stay the same. I am sure, you guys must have used & liked at least one product from the list. My Experience With Aroma Magic Neem & Tea Tree Face Wash Acne control/oil control face washes are generally drying in nature. They dry out skin so much that skin produces more oil as a result. Which totally beats the benefits of using an oil control face wash. Aroma Magic Neem & Tea Tree Face Wash, is a non drying face wash. It does not dry out my skin even a bit. I do not feel any stretchy feeling after washing my face with this face wash. I think Rose Extracts moisturizes skin while Neem & Tea Tree Oil cleanses it. This is my second bottle of this face wash. Since summers knocked on our doors early this year, my skin was producing a lot of oil and would feel sticky after 2 hours of through cleansing. But this face wash is proving to be very effective. My skin feels normal & balanced, no dryness, no oiliness. My skin is behaving like a good girl. As a result my face is spots free too. The face wash is economical, as little amount of the gel face wash is required for each application. Likes Gel based refreshing face wash. Contains Neem, Tea Tree Oil, Lavender Oil & Rose Extracts. Over the years I have seen that Neem based cleansers seem to suit me. So, whenever I discover a new Neem face wash I promptly buy that. Today I am going to compare the performances of two of the bestseller Neem face washes. Himalaya Herbals Purifying Neem Face Wash Vs. Patanjali Neem & Tulsi Face Wash Himalaya Herbals Purifying Neem Face Wash To begin with, Himalaya Herbals’ Purifying Neem Face Wash is the most effective and fuss-free face wash of all the facial cleansers that I have come across till now. I am using it on and off for 5-6 years now. Over the years, I have noticed no difference in quality of this product for which I must appreciate the quality control at Himalaya Herbals. I get bored of using the same face wash every time for long so every now and then I reach for other products. But, whenever my acne prone combination skin gets into trouble I promptly come back to this. That is why you will be able to find this product in my vanity all the time. I generally buy the 100ml or 150ml tube but this time I opted for the biggest pack, their shower friendly inverted bottle pack to minimize the number of repurchases. Below are a few points, I thought, are worth mentioning about this amazing product: The active ingredients are Neem and Turmeric Available in 6 sizes; priced at Rs.15 for 15ml, Rs.60 for 50ml, Rs.110 for 100ml, Rs.140 for 150ml, Rs.170 for 200ml and Rs.230 for 300ml Cleanses skin deeply without over-drying Fragrance is good but minimal Does not cause new breakouts or aggravates the existing ones Patanjali Neem & Tulsi Face Wash I saw this Neem & Tulsi face wash by Patanjali at a friend’s vanity and the packaging kind of attracted me. Finally, I had a chance to buy it last summer. I used it for a week or two but did not like it that much then because I needed a stronger cleanser back then. It sat there in my washroom closet for months before I started using it in the end months of winter this year. This time, however, it performed well as my skin was not that much oily and pimple-prone in those colder days. Though this cleanser has nice fragrance and decent oil cleansing capability without over-drying the skin it felt like just another cleanser to me due to two major reasons. Firstly, it was unable to cleanse out my pores properly so small bumps of clogged pores started to appear after a few days of continuous usage. I think, people who have normal skin which is not very pimple-prone like mine would not face this problem. And secondly, to getting rid of this cleanser from the face completely is a tedious task involving extra time, extra water and extra effort. As far I remember my first face wash was from Pond’s only when I started using one during my teenage days. After that I used almost every face wash that Pond’s came out with. I always admire it’s facial cleansers. Today I am going to talk about a very effective cleanser from Pond’s which must be favorite of many girls. Charcoal is a powerful substance, I did not know until I used, Pond’s Pure White Deep Cleansing Facial Foam. It is one hell of a cleanser. It really suck out dirt & oil in just first wash. This is HG cleanser of my little sister, be it any season. About POND’S Pure White Deep Cleansing Facial Foam Pond’s Pure White deep Cleansing Facial Foam is formulated with activated Carbon & Vitamin B3. The black activated carbon helps to absorb dirt & lifts away impurities while deep cleansing pores. It helps to wash away the impurities which causes blemishes and reveals brighter looking skin. The main features of this face wash: It contains Activated Carbon. Easily absorbs & lifts away the Black impurities. Helps to remove the cause of blemishes. Reveals your natural looking pure white skin. Price Rs. 192 for 100 gms. Rs. 99 for 50 gms. Rs. 37 for 20 gms. Buy here. Ingredients Packaging The face wash comes in a black opaque tube with a flip top at the top. There are white & purple accents on the tube giving it an attractive look. At the front of the tube the title of the face wash is printed along with logo of Pond’s. At the back, product information, ingredients & other related information is printed. The packaging is sturdy. The face wash also comes in travel size packaging. Color, Texture & Smell This is a grey colored creamy face wash. The consistency is not runny but spreads & is smooth to touch. It lathers very well. A small pea size of the face wash covers my whole face & neck. I always feel little sensation on my face every time I use this face wash. The face wash, washes away easily leaving skin matte. The face wash smells mild & pleasant. My Experience This is, as I earlier said, is one hell of a cleanser. I just need a pea size amount and few drops of water to make enough lather to cover my face and neck. Apply on my face & massage for a while. I feel little sensation every time I put this face wash on my face. Maybe that’s how the activated carbon works in pulling out impurities, I think. I wash away with plain water revealing squeaky skin behind. My face looks very clear, fresh & bright after use. There is little dryness that I feel afterwords this face wash (actually every face wash from Pond’s, make me run to grab a moisturizer). Clean n Clear or any such light face wash is enough to take care of the dryness. The face wash runs for a long time since very small quantity is required for each application. It is quite economical. Also I have traveled with 20 gms packaging which did not pose any leakage problem to me. Likes Creamy & smooth texture. Lathers very well. Cleans off dirt & oil effectively. Leaves skin matte & clean. Skin feels bright & clear. Affordable, economical & easily available. Dislike My oily skin feels little dry afterwords. But this is not a major con for me. Summary : 4.5/5 I find this face wash to be a great boon for oily skin specially in summer, when we need extra cleansing and matte finish afterwords. The face wash effectively cleanses dirt & oil and keeps skin matte for long hours. This is also affordable & economical as well as comes in many sizes.
