Today we are discussing The Body Shop Tea Tree Skin Clearing Facial Wash & Mattifying Toner. Being an oily-combination girl for the longest time of my life I have learnt a very basic lesson. Add potent products in your daily skin care and your skin will thank you later. By ‘potent thing’ I didn’t mean the harsh oil-clearing washes and scrubs but some ingredients that are milder yet effective in the long run. Tea tree oil is one such wonder ingredient that prevents pimple by killing the microbes from the surface of the skin. It also helps with the inflammation caused by active acne. The Body Shop Tea Tree Face Wash, is something I always wanted to try out as it contains tea tree essential oil which is great for oily, acne prone skin. Read on to know how I feel about these. The Body Shop Tea Tree Skin Clearing Facial Wash & Mattifying Toner The community trade Tea Tree oil derived range from The Body Shop is your ideal companion to fight against pimple and acne. The face wash and toner combo helps you clear oil, dirt and acne-genic bacteria from your skin keeping it matte and happy. Infused with tea tree oil, the formula of the face wash gently cleanses your pores, making them appear smaller. The toner, acts as an astringent to balance your skin’s pH level and create a protective barrier against the bacteria. Price I bought the face cleanser for Rs.645 and the toner for Rs.695 (250ml quantity each) but recently The Body Shop has hiked the price. The new price is Rs.695 and Rs.795 respectively. Buy here Ingredients Packaging The Body Shop’s regular skin and hair care products are generally sold in recycled plastic bottles. The Tea Tree range face wash and toner also come in similar packaging. Keeping up with the theme color of the tea tree range, the packaging and the color of the bottle is deep green. Both the bottles are equal in size (250ml) and their graphical label designs are also very similar. You have a high chance of making mistake unless you read the label before pouring out the product. Color, Consistency & Texture The Body Shop Tea Tree Facial Wash– The facial wash is light green in color and its texture is medium. It is a gel based no-foam face wash. The formula contains tea tree essential oil in substantial amount so the wash gives a slight cooling sensation. The strong formula of the wash may dry out your skin if used in excess. The Body Shop Tea Tree Mattifying Toner- The toner is a pale yellowish green watery fluid. Its consistency is thin and runny. Just like the face wash, the toner also has strong presence of tea tree oil. This toner has mattifying powder component ( Tapiocha starch / “Sabudana”) along with the liquid base. You have to give it a good shake to mix the liquid and powder to make it more effective. Fragrance Both the face wash and toner has mild refreshing tea tree essential oil smell. The smell does not feel bothersome to me. It stays only for a couple of minutes. After that it becomes fragrance free experience. My Take on The Body Shop Tea Tree Skin Clearing Facial Wash & Mattifying Toner I do a thorough research before buying something new for my skin and hair. I did the same before buying this face wash and toner as well. The reviews said the formula is strong and it might leave a slight burning sensation and dryness. So, I decided to take just two drops of wash and toner for each use. This was the perfect quantity for my skin. The wash was able to make my skin squeaky clean and that too without drying out. I do not have sensitive skin so it did not give the burning or stinging sensation. The slight tingling sensation brought a refreshing feel. The toner too has similar cooling sensation. The face wash contains sulphate, still, it does not lather much. The toner has alcohol, naturally the formula might irritate sensitive skin. I do not have such skin type so I was saved. Results Coming to the effectiveness, the face wash is awesome in terms of skin purifying. It helps in preventing pimples and reducing bumps of pimple. But to take the full benefit you have to massage it for 20-30 seconds. The wash unclogs the pores. It cleared small zits of clogged pores from my skin. The toner has strong antibacterial properties. It soothes the skin and calms down the redness and itching of pimples temporarily. Though the name says it’s a mattifying toner, it does not mattify my skin at all. The skin gets oily after sometime as it does without this. This range works pretty well on pimples but it did not fade my old acne marks to even the slightest. Editor Says: I have used this range, but I loved only The Body Shop Tea Tree Night Lotion, which worked on active pimples, as well as on old acne scars. To keep a skin balanced it’s important to never dry out skin. This range can dry out skin, if you are not careful, and rather prove to be harmful for your skin. I feel cleansers are superficial. They just are meant to be cleaning dirt, oil & some mild makeup. So I am not that much into pimple/acne clearing face washes, actually I never had luck with such face washes, with a few exceptions. Buy at discounted price here. How To Use Wet your face, create lather, gently massage, then rinse off. Ingredients Packaging It comes in a white flip top tube with blue accents. Quite sleek & travel friendly packaging. Does not leak. I have travelled to Rishikesh with this tube. Texture, Colour & Smell It is a white coloured creamy face wash with heavy medicinal but bearable smell. My Experience I have found that the texture of all the Pond’s face washes is almost the same, just the colour & smell change. This face wash is supposed to be targeting pimples, hence it contains Salicylic acid. It is not a regular face wash, it smells like it has got some strong ingredients. The texture of the face wash is creamy and does not lather much but pea size amount is enough to cover my face and neck. When I apply this face wash, there is little tingling sensation maybe due to the presence of salicylic acid. I quite like this fact. I feel that this is working on my face. It washes away easily, no hassle to get it off the face. It takes away dirt, oil & makeup too, it is that effective in cleansing. I do not need any separate makeup remover generally, unless I am using some hard core water proof eye makeup. It stings badly if it gets into eyes somehow. After washing face with this face wash, skin feels very matte, that’s how I feel after using any Pond’s face wash. Skin feels very taut and clear. But at the same time, my face also feel little dry which is quite expected from Pond’s face washes. I can never skip a moisturiser after using a face wash from Pond’s. Coming to the effect on pimples, I feel it can prevent pimples from environmental factors like dirt, sweat & oil but hormonal acne is not much controllable with this face wash. Also, it does not help much in healing an existing pimple. I always use, Faceclin Gel to treat a zit. Likes Creamy smooth texture. Contains Salicylic Acid to help unclog the pores. Cleans out dirt, oil, makeup & sweat effectively. Gives matte effect to skin. Skin looks clear & bright. Affordable & easily available. Travel friendly packaging. Dislikes Dries out skin little bit. Not much effective on hormonal acne. Summary : 4/5 It is a good face wash specially for summers to get rid of dirt, oil & sweat. Keeps skin fresh & matte for long. Cheryl’s Cosmeceuticals Derma Cleanse : Review

I always prefer creamy cleansers than foamy face washes. I don’t like the soapy film that most of the face washes leave behind even after washing thoroughly. Especially at night, I always use a cleanser to take the day off from my face. My current favourite cleansers are Cetaphil & Cheryl’s Derma Cleanse. Most of the times, I go for Derma Cleanse because it’s specially formulated for acne prone skin. Cheryl’s Derma Cleanse, is specially formulated with cinnamon & biosulphur. Cinnamon provides antibacterial, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and microdermabrasion benefits. Biosulphur contains sulphur which heals acne naturally. It is formulated for oily & acne prone skin. Price: Rs. 750 for 180ml. Ingredients: Except, Cinnamon & Biosulphur no ingredient has been mentioned on the packaging. How to Use: Wash face & neck with water and then towel dry. Spread Cheryl’s Derma Cleanse with finger tips on whole face and neck. After 10 minutes wash off with water. Packaging: It comes in a white sturdy plastic bottle with flip top. Texture, Color & Smell: The cleanser is golden in color. Its consistency is runny. My experience with Cheryl’s Derma Cleanse: It’s an excellent cleanser, the only minus point that bothers me except the price, is to wait for at least 10 minutes before washing it off my face. So what I do is, I slather on this cleanser over my face and neck. I make my toddler to brush his teeth. Then I go brushing my teeth. I don’t keep a track of the brushing time, but after the brush time, I wash off my face. And I feel my face is squeaky clean. About the long term effects, yes it helps in soothing angry pimples. It can’t stop hormonal acne to show up on the surface, but it helps to cope up with the existing acne. This bottle is quite bulky to take out in a handbag with you. There is a smaller version, not sure about the exact quantity, but its priced about 350 bucks. The packaging is quite leak proof from what I have experienced. But I accidentally dropped my bottle from a high shelf in washroom, and it got a crack in the neck if you could see in the pictures. Now the product leaks from that crack. Likes: Does its job of cleaning, fabulously, without leaving a soapy film behind. Soothes down acne. Pimples go away fast. Takes away face makeup & dirt. One bottle lasts long, about 3 months when used once a day. Travel Size pack also available. Dislikes: Way too pricey for a cleanser. 750 bucks for a cleanser in one go? Things I do to keep acne at bay. Need to wait for 10 minutes before washing up the cleanser. Can’t control hormonal acne on its own. Complete ingredient list is missing. Rating: 4.5/5 Final Words: It’s a keeper. It’s on my HG List.
