I have crossed the age of having a crush on someone. Maybe my heart is all filled with love for the one. No space left for a cute face. But those memories are never going to fade… the memories that are occupied with my crush list, a lot of nick named guys. I remember the feeling of butterflies fluttering in my stomach after seeing a cute guy. The butterflies would flutter even more when I see him checking me out… !!! Crush… is a like a drug. I had had a lot of them. I was kind of crushaholic – someone who could easily develop a crush for someone… I was a good student and later a hard working employee, but having a crush is like to de-stress. When you like someone, your body produces happy hormones, so you are de-stressed. Loosing yourself in the smile of someone, while you might not even know his name. Loosing yourself in the aura of someone, who might not even be aware of the fluttering butterflies in your stomach. I remember after befriending with most of my crushes, the magic really poofed away. They rather became sluggish, boring or stupid for me. I would be like, ‘seriously him!!!’ But some of them turned out to be good friends in long term. We would laugh over the mutual feeling we used to have for each other. I would be really surprised to know how they perceived me to be arrogant while I was just a shy girl. If you are still in those beautiful days of developing easy crushes, I would advise you to enjoy it as long as you can. It is a nice confidence booster. It really helps to shake off any kind of stress you have. Moreover it gives you a reason to attend your boring classes or working on a monotonous project at work place. Don’t try and ruin your crush unless you are sure of converting it into a relationship. Impulse actions certainly leads to awkwardness. You might not want that. Specially if you are at your work, it’s important to have boundaries or this might cost you your job. Out of all these crushes, The celebrity crushes are here to stay. I adore Keanu Reeves for the human being he is. He keeps on amazing us with his wonderful charity works and charismatic cinema appearances. I wish he never stops acting. P.S. – I wanted to keep it a bit light today since a lot of serious stuff was happening over the blog. Would you like to share your crush story? How many crushes do you remember? Share here… Love…

I happened to look over my handbag, & instantly, I smirked. It’s something fresh off the shelve, so I am sharing what’s inside my handbag? Hope you like it too. Also at the end of the post, I would like to know what you have got inside your bag…. Deal? Okay so let’s go ahead and take a peek inside my bag. I like to use a briefcase style bags in design as well as in size. Reason is simple, they look elegant and they can be stuffed like hell. When my baby was small, I never used a baby bag, instead my handbag became his baby bag with my few essential things taking a corner. I never liked the appearance and irregular shape of the baby bags. My current handbag is from Fiorelli… which suits my taste. You peak inside my bag, and you find nothing fancy. I keep only some essential things as you will realize below: No matter what season it is, you must keep a small pack of wet wipes with you. Specially if you have oily or combination skin. It’s important to stay & feel fresh throughout the day. Kara is a a primary brand that comes to my mind when I think of wet wipes. Kara Wet Wipes Aloe Vera & Mint Oil is my favorite version since it suits my skin type & smells very refreshing. When I am out, I use these wipes to clean my face of dirt & oil, smudged lipstick or liner leaving my skin fresh & ready for a layer of moisturizer. Priced at Rs. 80 for 20 pulls. Buy here. Rose Water is like soul saving during summer & monsoon. After spritzing rose water, I do not even feel a need for moisturizer. It tones & hydrates my oily skin very well. Kama Ayurveda Pure Rose Water, is definitely a keeper as it makes you smell good & is convenient to carry around and use. Priced at Rs. 250 for 50 ml, it is a great bargain for the quality offered. I can’t leave home without wearing & taking a lipstick with me. Mostly it’s a recent purchase, like these days, I am hooked upon Lakme 9 To 5 Primer + Matte Lipstick in Fuchsia File & Scarlet Surge. The lipsticks are matte & long wearing. They are my current favorite because of the color pay off. But yes, if I buy a new lipstick, it would go straight into my bag. Buy here. A lip balm is very essential to keep in your handbag. These days I have been Lakme Lip Love in Caramel which gives nice moisture but less of color. I too do not prefer wearing colored lip balms underneath my lipsticks. The lip balm works perfectly underneath a matte lipstick. Buy here only for Rs. 200. I generally do not re touch my kajal or liner while I am out, but still I like to keep few eye makeup items in my bag, just in case I need them sometime. These days I have been liking Maybelline Hyper Curl Volume Mascara a lot. It instantly gives an oomph factor to my lashes. The mascara is non clumping, waterproof & quick drying. Absolute love. Buy here. Plum Goodness Angel Eyes Kajal in Black is another charm to my vanity. It comes in white packaging and with a smudger attached at the other end. I like to wear the kajal and later swipe the smudger a bit to calm down the stark black color of the kajal to go on with my yellow complexion. Totally heart it. Buy it here at discounted price. I got a free Lakme Absolute Precision Eye Kajal in Black when I bought few of the latest range of Lakme lipsticks. It’s nice black & smudge proof kajal which can be worn as a liner too. Shall be out with a detailed review on it soon. Buy here. A hand sanitizer is a must have. It has become my habbit to keep one in my handbag since it really helps you free of worries regarding touching something that might be loaded with germs. Use a hand sanitizer every 2 hours or atleast before touching your face or eating food while you are out. Dettol hand sanitizer is a quite trusted when it comes to sanitation. Buy here. My sister in law gifted this compact 2 in 1 combing mirror, which is really handy while travelling. Though it can not go full throttle in detangling hair, but yes for those stray hair, it works good. The mirror is good for touch ups. No doubt a scarf is a savior. Be it sun or pollution, it really helps to save your skin & hair similarly pair of sunglasses makes you look glamorous and save your precious eyes from sun rays. They are always by my side. If you do not already know, I like to read. Hence there is always something to read in my bag (another reason to carry an oversized bag). It’s a nice way to kill time while you are travelling or waiting. I am a die hard fan of romantic fiction but been trying out some self help books. A notepad is also mandatory to be in my bag while I ma out covering some event. A digicam is quite handy while travelling. It is not possible to take DSLR every where I go. Sony cyber shot has been with me even before I started blogging. It has captured beautiful moments for me & my family. Now it goes out for work with me. Buy here. So here I conclude this post which gave you a hint of the stuff that generally goes inside my bag. It did not include my wallet, a BB Cream, a moisturizer for face and hands, a face wash, a sunscreen, a fancy pen, my phone, some napkins, few safety pins, a small water bottle and a bar of Bournville… Let me know, what’s inside your bag… will ya? Love.

My Mother. My heart fills with pride & gratitude while I am writing this article. I am going to gather and pen down the feelings scattered in my heart which I never acknowledged ever. Why today? I got a contest alert to submit a post describing my mother in terms of a #MyFilmyMom to make it more of a fun post. These were the “Filmy Ma” characters provided by bigsmall.in – “Is she like Mary Kom, an extraordinary career oriented mum; Or like Krish’s Mom in Two States, a Punjabi mom who hates your girlfriend, loves makeup and pampers you? Is she an authoritative single mother, the Man of the House like Dhaankor Baa from Ram Leela? Or a house wife who cooks delicious food like Shashi from English Vinglish. Is she a classy, sarcastic mom like Maya Sarabhai? Or the one who will let you marry an unconventional lover like Rani Kapoor from Dostana?” I really thought about this. Honestly speaking, my mother is less or more of all the characters provided above. She is not a working woman, she has never been, but she has been more to her children & household. I have seen her functioning alone when my father met an accident, went through a surgery & later went bed ridden for an entire year. She was there standing strong, holding the family together while running between home & hospital. Being alive has nothing to do with a religion or caste. She is a Haryanvi mother who loves shopping & dressing up (I got this from mother …see?). Her style & taste is elegant. She loves bright colors & always manages to look lively. She is 60, but no one can tell. #TheManOfTheHouse, is a strong term and would not do justice with the her feminism & woman hood. She had never realized this, but I think she has that personality & capability to run the family by herself. My father never worried about our upbringing, behavior, company that we keep or academics because my mother was there to take of all that. She had her own way to keep us disciplined. She never imposed restrictions on us rather made us realize the goods & bad of everything. I really hope I can do the same with my child. She cooks delicious food, no doubt. But she has not kept her tied only to the kitchen. She understands the bad effects of generation gap. She never let that come into between her and us. It’s not just English-Vinglish that she managed to pick up with us, she also learned to use Facebook & Whatsapp so that she can talk to her youngest daughter studying in Canada and get the latest pictures & videos of Aarav, while my father hesitated. She is little sarcastic but only while being funny. She laughs effortlessly. She is poised beauty. Even now while am writing this article, I am visioning her faint smile with few grey hair on the sides of her temples. I have witnessed the emotional side of my mother…. as emotional as Nirupma Rao used to play in most of her movies. Though my mother did not lose any of her child in a Kumbh Mela, but she miscarried during her first pregnancy. Whenever she remembers her first unborn child, I can’t stand the sadness in her eyes. I can only imagine what she must have been through. The miscarriage hurt her emotionally & physically that she could not conceive for 11 long years. It’s such a long period for a married woman to wait for her first child to see the sun light, while silently gulping all the taunts of the members of my father’s family. Now, I don’t get to see her very often & can not talk to her every day. But she is someone I look up to when I am down. She has been through a lot and still she has evolved as a very fine person and human being. I have got only 1% of her beauty, intelligence, grace & stamina to raise decent human beings. But to her, I am just perfect. That’s A Mother. Disclaimer: This article is the entry for Mother’s Day Bloggers Contest by Bigsmall.in, unique gift store in India. I started to write the post to submit to the contest but it made me realize I should have done this post a long time ago. My mother deserves to be mentioned for being so wonderful. Thank you Maa for being my mother.

I cried when my home pregnancy kit tested positive. I was so ready until you really knocked deep down my uterus. I suddenly felt overwhelmed by the very idea of having a small tiny baby in my hands within next few months & becoming a mother who is supposed to be right at every step, at every task that she does. What if I fail at being a mother? Somehow your father helped me gather my faith in myself. He was insanely happy, of course, like we just had hit a jackpot. Within few days, I was back to normal. It was you, you and only you in my every thought, in my every smile that was without a reason. I never felt so happy in my life. Throughout the first trimester I felt like a zombie. I would get up with nausea and moving my head from left to right would make me like I am going to vomit. I don’t know how I managed to develop a software during that time. I never felt so helpless. You hated everything I ate. I would just stare at my plate in the office canteen for good 5-10 minutes to gather some courage to eat few bites. You seem to like only water. The second trimester was like a cool breeze on a summer evening. You were doing good. I was happy, eating, walking & working effortlessly. I registered at every mom & baby related website/app. Your father & I, would hardly talk about anything but you. We planned a babymoon too, but it could not materialize due to our work commitments. The last days of my pregnancy were the most difficult ones as they are supposed to be. Every morning I would promise my self, this is the last day that I was going to office. It was becoming so hard to get up from my office chair and rush to washroom every hour to pee since you were so big by that time. Somehow with false promises made to myself, I managed to complete my eight months. I stayed at home during the last month of my pregnancy, every day anticipating you would be in front of my eyes, any day, any hour, any minute. But you decided to stay inside little longer. You did not show up on the day of my expected delivery date. There was no sign either. One day I was really sick, I had fever and constant pain in my lower abdominal, and not for a single time it occurred to my mind, that the time might have come. The following evening your father and I finally headed to the hospital, we already had chosen for you. The doctor said that I was ready to deliver you. The whole night passed, I was induced with artificial pain, I bore the pain till the late morning of next day, but your umbilical cord got stuck in your neck, and you were not able to come to the world natural way. Doctors gave up, said it was risky to wait for more time. I must get a C- Section ASAP. I said yes, your father said yes, your grand mother said No. But for the first time in life, I dismayed your grand mother and was getting an epidural at my lower back after 15 minutes. I was alone & cold in the operation theater, the anxiety struck again. I wanted to run away & wanted to quit. Then I started loosing my breath, since I was not feeling my chest due to the increasing effect of the epidural. I screamed for help, someone tried to place an oxygen mask over my mouth but that was suffocating too. I felt so helpless as I was not able to move my body. And then I was informed, the baby was out. “My baby is out?”… ” Why am not hearing any sound?” …” Why isn’t my baby crying?” I forgot my numbness and feared for some unknown mishap. And then you cried. You were crying out loud, just by your voice & tone, I could tell, it’s a boy. Then some doctor brought you in front of my eyes after cleaning you up. You were so pink, and fluffed up. The doctor asked, tell me if it’s a boy or a girl. I smiled while tears dropping down my eyes. I whispered, it’s a boy. Aarav, my precious!!!

Hello Girls, I have been talking to other beautiful and talented beauty bloggers and I think you should get to know them too. #bloggerinterviewseries is such a series on High On Gloss to introduce all the amazing beauty bloggers to you. One of my dear friends asked me, “Ain’t you going to lose your reader to the bloggers that you interview on HOG?”. I said “I don’t think so. My motive behind introducing this interview series on HOG is to make my readers aware of all the beautiful & creative work that is available online. I want them to know why I follow these people.” I am sure you will appreciate this motive. Continuing this interview series, I am going to represent Safiyah from TheBeautyInsideOut.com, who is a fabulous blogger and running her blog from about a year now successfully. Her blog is about skin & hair care, product reviews, DIYs, fashion & lifestyle. So you will find almost everything on her blog. She is more inclined to using natural skin & hair care products. Sounds awesome huh? I invite you to get to know her more closely hence present glimpse of her thoughts & aspiration below: Safiyah From TheBeautyInsideOut.com Me- When/how/why did you start blogging? Safi- After quitting my full time job in a jiffy ( I remember my mom admonishing me for quitting such a good job) and staying idle for a couple months browsing through the internet all day long, I got this habit of reading a lot of blogs. And one fine day when I was reading an article about starting a beauty blog on a blog that I regularly visit (crueltyfreekitty), I found it interesting and that’s how my blog came into existence. To be exact, TheBeautyInsideOut had its inception on 25th of March 2016. It’s soon going to be a year <3 Me- What/who is your inspiration? Safi- My first inspiration was Suzi from crueltyfreekitty.com. From time to time I get inspired from a few of my fellow bloggers work. Some of their posts are so inspiring that lifts up my mind when I’m so low with my blogging life. Me- How do you get over the blogger’s block? Safi- I stop making deadlines for myself and just take a break, visit my friend’s place, have a chit chat, of course have food and then a new blog idea just pops out of my mind. Weird but that’s how it works for me! Me-What makes you what you are today? Safi- Obviously, My family. Apart from that, my love for reading and exploring new things is what made me what I am today. Me- What was the first milestone in your blogging journey? Safi- Having a handful of lovely true-hearted readers. Yes that’s a milestone for me 🙂 Me- What is your advice to High On Gloss? Safi- Honestly I am not great at giving advice. But I wanted to tell you that I love reading your honest reviews and you have been doing a really great work. Keep doing it in the future too. Some Quickies: Q. When did you start wearing makeup? After completing my graduation. Q. How long do you take to get ready in the morning? Less than 5 minutes. I hardly wear makeup on a daily basis. Q. If you can only use one eye makeup product, what would it be? Earlier it was kajal, lately I have found my liking towards using just an eyeliner. Q. Tinted Moisturizer, BB Cream, or Foundation? BB Cream Q. Cream, Powder, or Liquid Blush? Powder Blush. Creams and liquids don’t work on my oily skin. Q. Do you prefer matte or dewy skin? I like both. Q. Do you prefer matte or shimmer eyeshadows? Matte. Q. Do you prefer matte or shiny lipstick / lipgloss? Lipgloss. I don’t mind re-applications .Matte lipsticks are too drying for my dry lips. Q. What will you buy in 1000 bucks. Organic skincare products that are made in India. Q. What product are you hoping to buy next? I have been eyeing on an organic BB cream from Magic Dust. It’s a bit expensive though 🙁 ❤❤❤ That was lovely Safiyah for you. I really appreciate that she took out time to answer my questions. I wish her luck & much more success in her blogging journey. P.S. – I love pronouncing her name -S A F I Y A H 🙂 Love from HOG ❤

Year 2016 is past now, but what a year it was. It gave a new meaning, identity and purpose to my life. The year was so full of shocks to me and to every body. There are some lessons that I learned last year and are going to stay with me forever. You too stay with me. Be presentable always. It makes me feel confident and cheerful. It’s important to stay sharp even when you are not expecting any one, since unexpected things happen when you least expect them. It’s my duty to keep myself happy. Everyone around me loves me, but I must take care of myself in every aspect. I am more courageous than I think. The idea of starting High On Gloss came into my mind suddenly while I was just sitting with my siblings and just chit-chatting about nothing. I researched some technicalities within next few hours and just started it. It’s been 3 months since I started this, and I am getting more passionate about it with every passing day. It’s never too late to give a fresh start to your life. Anger management is must for a smooth day. Life is too short to get into every single detail and stressing over it. There is a special connection between siblings. No matter how old I get, I can always count upon them. He is not perfect neither am I, that’s why we are together and always will be. My toddler cares for me a lot. Whenever I am in bad mood, he would start apologising thinking it’s his fault. Being social is important. There was a time in my life after marriage I was just juggling between my new family and office, no time for friends, living a monotonous life. Last year I started reconnecting with friends and it felt great. Travel is fun but gives a hangover. Making trips and clicking photographs at exotic locations is absolute fun. But I hate unpacking. What did you learn last year about yourself? Care to share? Love.

This is going to be the first Christmas, when my little sister is away from home. Even while she was studying in KUK, she used to visit us during winter holidays. But now, nothing until she is done with her internship. She is juggling between two jobs and her studies. She has to manage her cooking, cleaning and everything else. Even though she has found some friends over there, but she never go to sleep before talking to Mom. Even after waking up in the morning, she would generally drop a text asking ‘anybody available for chat?’ She would never show, but we know, she misses us a lot. We know you are working so hard. You always have been so serious about your studies and career. You believe in your dreams and go out of your league to achieve them. Really proud of you girl. Love, Lots Of Love.

A guy friend asked me few days back why should I follow your blog. There is nothing for me there. I took his comment seriously and thought about sharing what I know about men styling. Men Styling Tips- Yes you read it right. I am going to write something about men styling today. I am not an expert, but then, I know how I want to see my guy styled. Also I kind of stay updated with current trends even in men’s fashion. About 80% men would watch an action movie or game instead of surfing fashion trends if given a choice. Most of the office going men don’t really put special effort in styling themselves. They don’t have time to keep them updated with the latest trends. They don’t even care. If you are a girl reading this post currently, you should pitch in and give your man some trend advice or if required change his wardrobe. Follow these tips as much as you can. Go Basic Its very important to have a basic white shirt in your wardrobe, it could be worn on a formal. Also its important to have a button down long shirt (preferably in check) to be worn on casual days. I know you might be smitten by latest loafers but the very basic leather shoes can not be replaced with anything else. Its important to have the very basic things in your wardrobe. Seasons change but the basics stay forever. Follow Fashion Blogs Not mine( in this context), but a proper men fashion blog. Browse men fashion blogs, like FashionBeans.com, hespokestyle.com etc. Google it. There are plenty of them to treat your eyes with latest trends of the season. Also, whenever you see some kind of men’s clothing trends, which you liked, in some newspaper/magazine, just cut it out and save it with you. Next time you need new clothes, take that cutting with you for reference. Follow Your Instinct: Even though I said to watch for some fashion blogs. But every person has his own style, one should stick to that and then play with the colors and textures. Not every new fashion trend is meant for every man. Incorporate the latest trends by customising them to suit your purpose & taste. Prints or Solids? You liked a printed cotton blazer, fine, but it does not mean you can wear that everywhere with everything. Prints may be season’s hottest trends. But don’t go overboard with prints. Prints are suitable for younger aged men that too when worn on casual occasions. Solid colours are a man’s bestie. Solid colours never go out of fashion and flatter every physique. Also after a certain age, prints won’t suit guys until he lives on a beach (hawai yo). Comfort with Style If you think you are more comfortable in shorts, get a knee length khaki short or cargo, anything above thigh is only for girls (wink). You like wearing t-shirts, fine, but try to get collared t-shirts as they look more sensible. Accessorise To Finalise Accessories should not be taken as optional since men don’t have much of them. So pay attention to the accessory section also. Treat yourself with aviators/reflectors. A brown belt is as much important as much a black belt (and I am not talking about some Karate Championship here). Your belt must match your shoes and your wrist watch. Talking about a wrist watch, your wrist watch must be selected based on the occasion and type of clothing. If wearing a sports watch with formal calls for fashion police, then wearing a formal watch with sporty outfit is also a sin. Just ditch the wrist watch if you can’t match it with your outfit. Vroom Vroom Groom: Most important tip Stay Sharp, Look Sharp. Use proper grooming products. Don’t be lazy. Don’t use trimmers when you must use a razor. Use after shaving lotions to smell & feel fresh. Use long lasting and effective deodorants. Take proper care of your skin. Scrubs, face-washes & moisturisers are not only for women. Your skin too need pampering. Keep your hair well nourished and in shape. Please use products that are formulated only for men, otherwise, there is no use. Quick Tip: Wear body shapers if you feel like. They are really helpful. P.S. – If you must know, I am still not over Murat & Hayat, hence the pictures 😛 I hope I have helped someone. Do you think so? Leave your comments/ queries. Stay High, Stay Fab.

Hi & Welcome. I can’t tell you how excited I am starting a blog of my own, where I can blabber all I want. No rules to follow, no tight schedules to meet. #AlmaLibre. High On Gloss– actually, it’s not just gloss, it could be as basic as a moisturiser or as luxurious as a high end fragrance. I am a crazed, obsessed & fickle-minded beautiholic. I feel butterflies in my stomach when I see a new product launch. I just get desperate to get my hands on it. Even if I promise a beauty-diet to my self, I can’t stop cheating. Leaving a stable software professional job behind, I am restarting my life with this blog, because, this is what I love the most. The very idea of being surrounded with cosmetics & makeup products gives me happiness. And when I am actually surrounded with gorgeous stuff, I am on cloud no 9. 5 things, this blog is about: ⦁ Product Reviews: I will try to present my view of every single product here, I have ever used. ⦁ Product Hauls: Since no girl is complete unless she goes for shopping every week or alteast every fortnight. ⦁ What I did today: These posts will be about makeup or/and looks. ⦁ DIYs: Short and simple related to skin/hair/body care or just little nick-nacks. ⦁ Beauty in Distress: This is going to be a question answer section. Anyone can ask anything related to fashion, beauty, looks, makeup etc., the query will be posted on the land of poised girls, open for anyone to answer it. You think we connect? Hey do you think, we are alike? Let me know, drop a line in the comment section or just reach me on nishmalik@sh043.global.temp.domains. If you too, feel like you can write nice posts about beauty/makeup/fashion, or you want to give any suggestions, please drop an email to me at nishamalik@sh043.global.temp.domains.
