Small Haul From Kodaikanal

This feels like hangover. My mind is here in Delhi but my heart is still stuck there, back in Kodaikanal. Guys, you have to bear my Kodiakanal Gaga for few more days until, I get absrbed to my routine life again.

Today I am going to write about a few things that I got from Kodaikanal. Mainly there were homemade chocolates & spices every where. The chocolates come in every flavor, milk, butter scotch, bitter & dark (my favorite), packed with nuts & cracker, I mean anything you could think about. Mostly the price started from Rs. 100 per 250 gms. Quite reasonable. I spotted a lot of skin care & hair care products. Most of them were handmade and packed with natural ingredients. Free of chemicals. Exotic… huh!!!

I wanted to get some spices, but left it for the last day of shopping, which could not happen due to a Survayapi-Bandh imposed on the city right on the last day of our stay. Thank God, I had gotten some skin care products beforehand, the day when we visited the Green Valley View. Since there was not much to see at the point, I rather explored the shops located on the sides of the narrow passage to the point.

There were handmade soaps in different flavors, Lime, Rose, Aloe Vera, Vanilla, Mango, Jasmine etc. The soaps were priced very reasonable, despite of being herbal. I plan to gift them to my beloved ones.

rose water from kodaikanal

I spotted these bottles of rose water every where. I asked them why did the rose water look white? They said, it was concentrated & was in the purest form. I was thrilled. The rose water concentrated is supposed to be diluted. Back at the hotel I tested it. I applied a patch on my cheek and it gave a burning sensation. It was raw.

I also spotted Almond & Aloe Vera Shampoos. I got the Aloe Vera version since the Almond one came into bigger size only, while I insisted on getting a smaller size bottle.

red sandal wood powder kasturi majal from kodaikanal

I have been wanting to try out Kasturi Majanl (a form of Turmeric), from a long time. I did not hesitate to get a bottle from Kodaikanal, since it was every where for sale. I also got Red Sandal Wood powder along with this which has excellent skin care properties. I plan to come up with a DIY face pack with these two ingredients soon.

Coming to the handicraft items, there were some real nice works in wood & brass. But that would have been like a lot to carry back to Delhi. I got these two very beautiful pieces of hand held fans. I like them very much. They are so stylish & colorful. I grabbed a lot of these fans, but Neeraj said, “2 are enough, honey!!” And I returned the rest of them back to the shop owner with a forced smile.

So that concludes my very tiny haul from Kodaikanal. There would have been little more items, if I had not left it for the last minute shopping, which could never happen. I am happy & content though.

On a closing note, I have inhaled the beauty of the city inside my brain, it’s never going to fade away. Hola.
