How To Identify Dry And Damaged Hair?
If your hair are dull and lacks bounce or shine. They do not respond to most of the hair treatments they are most probably damaged. The keratin level of your hair is below the danger sign.
Dry hair can be just dry as you might have dry skin and if you provide nourishment and moisture, they respond back with shine and life. If your hair have shine till the mid length, and only the hair ends are dry, you are fine. It happens with thick hair type where the moisture level keeps on reducing as you go till the length.
My hair always feel nice at the top, actually my scalp starts shining after 2-3 days of shampoo because of the natural oils produced by my scalp, but my hair ends still look the same. I mostly use those products that are termed to be used for damaged hair. The reason is simple. Damaged or dry hair mainly need lots of moisture.
How To Repair Dry And Damaged Hair?
Just a simple ingredient can boost moisture level in your hair. But the key is consistency. Using the hair mask once a while does not help with dry or damaged hair. You need to do hair ritual weekly. And you will definitely see some nice results. I am one with patience levels of a kid, and I don’t see results in first use, I might never even see that product again. But this is what I do wrong.
Even if a product/ a DIY does not give desired results, give it a second try. There are high chances that it will work out better the second time.
Here are few ways to improve and boost moisture level in dry and damaged hair:
The Holy Grail Hair Mask For Dry & Damaged Hair – Banana Mask : My sister got her hair rebound twice. Every single time here hair were left more damaged. She was quite naive back then and did not have much knowledge about hair damage due to chemical treatments.
She lost 50% of her hair density. She faced major hair breakage. There were tiny hair sprouts that could be seen on hair crown area due to severe hair breakage. What she did? She started using The Moisture Replenishing Hair Banana Mask.
It took her about 7-8 months, but her hair damage has been revered almost 80%. Here hair texture is so much better. Here hair feels smooth and soft. She uses this banana mask every week and that’s all. She has also made a point to use mild and SLS free shampoos like MamaEarth Shampoo, Khadi Honey and Sandalwood Shampoo.
When I first used this hair mask, I loved how beautifully it replenished moisture in my hair. But. It gave me scalp pimples. Just the very second day. My sister never faced this issue. But I did. I swore to never use this again.
After few months, when I saw how beautifully the banana hair mask worked for her hair, I gathered courage to use it again but only on my hair tips this time. And viola. It worked. Just by apply on my hair ends where my hair actually lacks moisture, I just apply it.
What works for my dry hair?
Egg + Aloe Vera Gel
Egg + Curd
Egg + Honey
Just Eggs
Even just two eggs, can change the hair game. My hair love eggs. Eggs contain all the vital nutrients for hair and even skin to become and stay healthy. The high protein levels present in eggs boost up the moisture level in dry hair. My hair respond back with double the shine and bounciness whenever I use an egg pack. Using it on weekly basis, my hair look more nourished and less frizzy.
Leave In Creams For Dry Hair
My first leave in cream was Himalaya protein cream. I was kind of confused how to use that though. It was supposed to be used after shampoo but I never liked the heavy feeling it gave to me. So I just used it as a hair mask and I don’t remember getting astonished by the results. I stopped using it only after 3-4 uses. If I had been more persistent, I might have got nice results.
Moving on to leave in creams, they are multi functional. Some have a sole purpose to make your hair look glossy, some actually adds some nutrients while some protects from environmental damage. You can actually have a tough time choosing between a leave on hair cream or a hair serum as they basically does almost the same for your hair. Hair serums are loaded with more silicons while a hair cream might or might not have silicons.
If you have severely dry and damaged hair, a hair cream is great option for you. It is more potent and delivers more moisture to your hair. The hair cream generally have a tendency to penetrate deep down your hair shaft and delivering the promised. But, constantly using a leave on cream may leave you with a product build up. That’s the basic issue with hair products. They tend to build up on your hair if used for long duration. You should use a clarifying shampoo weekly or every fortnight to remove the build up.
Why it’s important to remove product build up from your hair?
Sometime you wonder, why your shampoo and conditioner have stopped working? Actually your hair ain’t receiving the product so well because your hair have got covered by the by-product of your hair product. It might be just your silicon loaded shampoo or conditioner. Over a period of time, the silicons present in hair products, form a layer on your hair. That’s why the hair experts ask you to change your shampoo and conditioner frequently, instead you could just use a clarifying shampoo in between.
The build up does not let your hair products penetrate into your hair shaft and making it sit on your hair strand, creating more build up. You get the hint. If you are wondering why your favorite hair product is not working any more, you might want to invest in a clarifying shampoo right away.
