If you are a regular reader of High On Gloss then you may have noticed I have mild dandruff problem and sometimes itchy scalp. To take care of these problems I rely on good quality anti-dandruff hair care items and Henna. Since I do not have access to the Henna plant, I have to satisfy myself with store-bought powder hennas. In my 5-6 years of Henna experience, I have come across various brands that make such powder form henna mixes. In my today’s review, I will be talking about Habibs Henna- Rare Mix for my oily-scalp and dry-hair. Habibs as a salon brand does not need any introduction what so ever so I am giving you a tiny spoiler of my experience here.

Packaging
Since this is a powder-based henna mix, it comes in a tub for the convenience of users. The body of the tub is white and it shuts with a green screw cap. There is a silver-colored sheet on the mouth of the tub to protect the product from getting contaminated. Both the tub and the cap is made up of sturdy plastic. It is a product weighing 200gm so the pack must be big, which is the case with this henna!
It is not a travel-friendly pack but you can easily transfer the desired amount of powder in a ziplock pouch or other small container if you wish to carry it for your going-outs. The pack mentions detailed information regarding the composition and purpose of this henna with usage methods.
Colour, Texture & Smell
Habibs Henna looks light brown when it is in the powder form. Once you dissolve it with water, it becomes muddy brown. It is a finely milled powder with a smooth texture. Making a lump-free paste is very easy with it. It has a very light herbal fragrance with the original henna smell. The smell of henna stays long but the added scent goes off after 15-20 minutes.
My Views
I do not follow the usage instructions provided in this pack because it makes my hair dry. I create my own DIY packs out of this henna to fight with various hair woes like dandruff, dryness, scalp itching, etc. They say the tint henna gives to your hair depends on your natural hair color. I get a reddish-brown tinge on my hair with this henna as my natural hair is slightly brownish. The tint looks darker for 4-5 days but then it fades a little bit and settles into lovely reddish tint over my original hair color.
I used to use Shehnazs’ henna before this. Shehnazs’ henna gave deeper brown tint which looked a bit deeper over my natural hair color. I apply henna to treat my light dandruff problem. So, I am not that frequent with my henna routine. I do henna once in 3 months. The tint my hair gets by henna is a bonus for me!
How To Counteract to Dryness Post Henna?
With my experience with store-bought powder hennas I know one thing, they can be quite drying to the hair if used alone. So, I mix oil, curd or milk or fresh cream to the powder to counteract the dryness. Sometimes I do a brief overnight heavy-oiling beforehand. This henna makes my hair look shiny and treats my dandruff problem very well. It cleanses off the scalp from sticky dandruff making the itchiness vanish in one use itself.
Though its drying nature leaves my unruly baby hairs at their own condition, I am happy with what it does to solve my scalp problems.

Hi Sandhya 🙂
Nice to know you loved reading the review.
Though I do not have grey hair problem but I can say it will give you orangish tone to the greys. Plus it promises 25-30% grey coverage.
