Who else loves winter for it’s cozy fashion. It has always fascinated me. Seeing those 6 feet and ZERO sized girls carrying those fluffy overcoats and extra warm scarfs wrapped around their turkey necks, always made me think why this never suit me. Over few years I tried on the fashion that was rocking on the runway. But that could never become my own style. The reason was clear, I was neither 6 feet tall nor a zero figure. My body does not look flattering in those extra fluffy jackets because it already has it’s own plumpness. So I learned my lesson.
Winter Fashion Trends You Must Avoid If You are Plump Or Petite
The same thing goes for a petite girl. Even If she is not plump, she is short. Her tiny frame, cannot carry the extra dimension that some of the fall fashion adds to her personality. She looks over burdened by the clothes in the name of fashion. That’s just not practical. So, here I am going to presenting some of the fashion trends a plump or petite girl must avoid.
Knee Length Boots
Boots are the first thing that I would run to buy I see a leaf falling. I am crazy about them. But getting ankle sized boots is the best bet if you are a girl with average height of 5 feet 4/5 inches like me. If you go for calf high or knee high boots, you are actually shortening your visual height, while your focus should be on elongating your frame. Specially if the boots are dark colored and contrasting with your outfit. I know those thigh high boots are so sexy, but definitely not something you could wear on an ordinary day, otherwise they could work for you.
Extra Fluffy Jackets
The look and feel super comfy, but I would never like to be seen wearing one outside my bedroom. They are perfect only for Netflix binge watch. I have a round face and curvy body. These fluffy jackets take away the curves and make me look like a stuffed teddy bear.
What I do instead, I layer on my sleek jackets. I love wearing long jackets and trench coats. These slender jackets make me feel super classy on a budget. Plus these long jackets and coats look exquisite on Indian as well as western clothing. If I need its’ extra chilly (which happens seldom), I put on thermals before my clothes.
Loud Patterns & Prints
Be it any season, I avoid wearing loud patterns and prints. You can pick one loud color, small patterns, no problem at all. But try to stick to the patterns that add height. Go for stripes, but they should be narrow one. Don’t overload yourself with colors. Pick a color to accentuate and add subtle tones.
Oversize Scarfs
According to me, a scarf is one of the must have accessory, be it spring summer or winter. But, don’t just wrap any piece of cloth around your neck. Be assured of the pattern and the fabric of the scarf. Similarly, avoid extra fluffy and over-sized scarfs, that could really make you feel stuffed.
Also make sure to pick a fabric that won’t lose hair. Otherwise, you might inhale them, they could irritate you skin and nose.
Hats Off
Warm caps and hats are another way to feel comfy and look stylish, but, I don’t think all the hats/caps suit my face. I have found that unless I open my hair, a hat or a cap kind of accentuate my plumped cheeks.
Oversize Accessories
Chunky belts and over-sized handbags are a big no no, be it any season. I like to stay classy and elegant. And such chunky and oversize accessories are never my thing. Over-sized things, only add more bulkiness to my frame. Talking about a rather short girl, she should, pick a sensible design and size too, otherwise it could go out of proportions.
Why Oversize Fall Fashion Is Not For India?
I don’t understand the oversize fashion. Why things have to be oversize-ed? Your clothes should be well fitted. Your accessories should accentuate your beauty instead of overpowering your personality. Anyone suggests oversize-ed fashion, and I freak out.
Practically, India is a hot country. Lucky that we get a real cold wave for a month out of 12. Unless you are staying at a hill station, you really don’t need extra warm, and fluffy jackets, sweaters or knitted scarfs. Layering on works great for Indian winters.
These were my pointers to have create your own style without falling for fashion mishaps. Fashion is for every one, but what you pick from it, is your style. So let it be the best one.
